Fish & Brown Sugar
Learn how FAA works in Korean Natural Farming. Fish scraps and brown sugar become a powerful fermented amino input for vegetative growth. It smells rough, but when made clean and used diluted, it can be pure nitrogen gold for the soil food web.
What is FAA?
Fish Amino Acids is a KNF input made by fermenting fish material with brown sugar into a concentrated liquid used mainly for vegetative growth.
FAA starts with fish scraps mixed with brown sugar in a clean container. The sugar pulls moisture from the fish, feeds fermentation, and helps preserve the extract.
The result is a strong amino-rich liquid. It can smell intense, but a good batch should smell fermented and fishy, not rotten, sewer-like, or putrid.
In simple language: fish becomes liquid nitrogen energy for soil biology and green growth.
FAA is powerful. It should be used diluted, mostly in vegetative growth, and not abused during late flowering when too much nitrogen can push leafy growth and reduce finish quality.
Fish is the engine
Fish material brings proteins, oils, minerals, and amino compounds that break down into a strong growth input.
Brown sugar extracts
Sugar pulls liquid from the fish and helps preserve the ferment while microbes do the work.
Smell tells truth
FAA smells heavy. But rotten, sewer-like, unbearable putrid smell means the batch went wrong.
Dilution is respect
This is concentrated stuff. More is not better. Diluted use keeps the plant and soil balanced.
What you need
Keep it clean and simple. Fish scraps, brown sugar, a clean jar, breathable cover, shade, and labels.
Fish scraps
Use clean fish waste, small fish, heads, bones, guts, or trimmings. Fresher is better.
Brown sugar
Used to extract liquid, feed fermentation, and help stabilize the amino-rich liquid.
Clean jar
A wide container makes mixing and later straining much easier.
Breathable cover
Cloth or paper lets gas escape while blocking flies, dust, and debris.
Label
Write the input name, date, and material used. Future you will thank you.
